THE JOURNEY

Tradition, carried forward.

1971

The first step

Robert begins martial arts training in 1971. That starting point anchors a career spanning more than five decades and explains why continued study is central to his biography. His experience is built on years of participation in the arts, rather than a recently acquired interest in teaching.

A LIFETIME OF STUDY

Learning across disciplines

Robert’s background includes Judo, Kenpo Karate, and Hung Gar Kung Fu, alongside the study of multiple styles of Tai Chi Chuan. His Tai Chi teachers include GrandMaster Yang Zhen Duo, GrandMaster Yang Jun, and GrandMaster Zhang Yuanming. These are documented parts of his training history, not additional programs currently advertised by Red Dragon.

CHINA

International competition

At the Yang Family Style Invitational Tournament in China, Robert wins four gold and two silver medals. His accomplishments also include over 40 awards in the United States and recognition as a Master of Chinese Kung Fu. The China competition is a significant part of that history: it connects his study of Tai Chi to participation in the Yang Family Style Invitational Tournament, rather than simply to a general claim of international experience.

2001

Red Dragon is established

Red Dragon School of Martial Arts was established in 2001. Its history includes teaching multiple martial arts disciplines in Western New York. That broader history remains part of the school’s identity, even as its present program has become more focused.

TODAY

A focus on Tai Chi

The school now specializes in Tai Chi, preserving its martial arts roots while welcoming new students to the practice. Robert remains its president and head instructor. Prospective students can learn about his full background while knowing clearly that Tai Chi is what they are contacting Red Dragon to study.

Training history and accomplishments are documented on Red Dragon’s original website. Undated milestones are presented without assigning a year.

Why does an instructor’s background matter?

Choosing an instructor means choosing someone whose experience you will return to as your own understanding grows. Robert’s documented training, teachers, and competition history give prospective students a concrete picture of his path through martial arts and Tai Chi.

Awards and training history are useful context, but a conversation is still the best way to ask about the class you would attend. Ask what material is being taught, where a beginner should start, and how you can continue learning between visits. Read the class information or contact Red Dragon to take that next step.

YOUR FIRST STEP

A little curiosity.
A lifetime of possibility.

You don’t have to know the movements. Just start with a conversation.
